Once the Superman TV series ended in 1997, Dean Cain wasted no time in trying to put together a focus for the acting life that lay ahead of him. He needed to come out of the shadow that the Superman character he had played for four years had cast on him. So the following year, he started his own production company and called it Angry Dragon Entertainment.
Soon he had another memorable series on his hands – this time produced by his own company. The series was Ripley's Believe It or Not! And it was aired on TBS Superstation. A movie that he had starred in – Best Men- which had been shot during a lean season of the Superman series was released in 1998. He had a number of films that followed including The Broken Hearts Club, Bailey's Billions, Out of time, The Perfect Husband: The Laci Peterson story. There have been other movies as well like Firetrap, For the Cause, Breakaway, I Do but I Don't, September Dawn and Lost. He has acted alongside greats like Jon Voight and James Caan.
On TV, he had a number of serials in which he appeared like Showtime's Tracked/Dogboys and in ABC's Futuresport. He directed and hosted Off Camera with Dean Cain which was a series that showcased the hobbies of celebrities. He is also seen in Las Vegas playing the role of Casey Manning. He also does guest appearances in shows like the Game Show Network and Hope & Faith. His most recent venture was as a reporter in the movie Calendar girls which starred Helen Mirren and Julie Waters.
He is also involved in a number of charitable events and this is even more so after his son Christopher has been born. The children's charity that is especially close to his heart is the Aspen Grassroots Experience.
He's a favorite at chat shows, whether it is an Ellen DeGeneres show or Larry King or Sharon Osborne.
Yes, in this decade after the Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman series, Dean Cain has managed to shed the mantle of the superhero and prove his mettle in many different roles where he has extended himself to portray various emotions ad various characteristics. He's taken every opportunity that tinsel town has presented to him and turned it around to his advantage. If the times when he played a superhero were good, what comes after is even better for this charming actor.
