More About Thora
She’s been there, done that when it comes to the bright lights. She was in front of a camera when she was four. She did her first semi nude scene at 17 – well, when the movie was shot, she wasn’t quite 17 yet. She decided to put on 20 pounds so she could play the role of a slightly overweight girl in Ghost World. She’s a great actress and yet she does her own stunts – she can do them thanks to the fact that she is a Blue Belt in karate. In Monkey Trouble, both the monkey and Thora did their own stunts.
Then there’s the fact that she is a vegetarian – so she’s disciplined in her personal life as well besides having very strong beliefs. She has always worked well with her producers, directors and co-stars (except when her father kicked up a fuss during her shoot for The Winter of Frozen Dreams). Yet, she is said to have been thrown out of the shoot for Election after which she disappeared from the scene for a few years. Was it just a bit of teenage trauma? Or did she need that time away from the glare of the bright lights? The thing is, she came back with guns blazing with American Beauty and a clutch of awards to prove to the world that she was back in the game. After that, Thora Birch seems unstoppable. She has time after time ensured performances that were consistently good.
So what does Thora want for herself in the future? Everyone, even her astrological forecast will probably tell you she has a great movie career ahead of her – that she has what it takes to maintain her star status. Thora has this to say when asked what she would like to do. Her dream seems to lie in directing and towards that end, she does do a bit of it for The Doomed Planet, a comedy group. Well, if dreams could come true, she would like to be a cop, a singer and do ice skating as well. Her green eyes light up with her dreams but she is very focused on her career as of now.
She’s sophisticated, she’s got style, she’s beautiful. But she doesn’t let any of that get in the way of her acting. Perhaps it’s that grit, that quality, that dedication that has made her a star.
