Thora, The Girl
Thora Birch the actress has been in the limelight ever since she was little. But what about Thora Birch the girl? What do we know about her? What drives her? Does she have a life apart from the silver screen?
Well, she was actually born Thora Birch. Her family name was Biersch which was changed to Birch and it reflects her German Jewish ancestry. She also has Nordic and Italian blood in her. She must have had a rather different childhood. Her parents were both adult movie stars and they thought they had a son on the way when she was born. So instead of Thor after the Norse God of Thunder, she was called Thora. Since the name was already taken, when her brother did make his appearance, he was called Bolt – as in Thunderbolt, perhaps? Well Thora seems to like the feeling too. So it comes as no surprise that one of the three dogs she adores is called Thunder. The other two are called Necro and Herc.
Thora was thrust before the acting lights when she was very young. From acting in Quaker Oats commercials to a whole lot more, and then a step into actual TV shows with Day by Day and then Purple People Eater for which she won an award. From then on, it was a stairway to acting heaven. At 17, she was making acting history in American Beauty and everyone started sitting up and taking notice.
Well, more about her. She stands 5 foot 4 inches and she was born on the 11th of March which makes her a Pisces. Though she didn’t finish her schooling, she did do her diploma privately through a correspondence course. Her parents are Jack and Carol Birch and she has just one brother Bolt who could be acting with her in the upcoming movie Train.
She’s just like a lot of young people in that she loves root beer and Italian food. But she’s different in that she also loves Van Gogh and she does all her own stunts in the movies – not surprising actually considering that she holds a Blue Belt in karate.
Her love life? Not too much is known except the fact that she had an almighty crush on Joaquim Phoenix – even when she hadn’t met him! One would think from the roles she acted that she would be seen around with a lot of good looking men but Thora seems to keep that side of her life pretty much under wraps.
